Career Guidance
The foundation hosts an annual career fair aimed at grades 8 to 10. Our flagship Shifting the Landscapes career fair focuses on showcasing careers within the Hospitality, Travel and Tourism sectors. We arrange annual excursions for science and mathematics learners to national Science Museums. Our focus on STEM subjects led to our partnership with Ikamva youth and the establishment of in-class and online academic tutorials. We offer high school learners additional support in Science and Mathematics subjects. The assistance is extended to support with school assignments and homework to improve overall academic performance. The support on academic performance includes the implementation of a Winter school programme targeted at Grades 10 to 12 which offers tutorials during winter-school breaks. B.E.A.R Foundation offers a scholarship intervention to over 200 matric learners each year. The scholarship acts as a bridge to further education at any one of 7 South African universities.
Outcomes:
- Improve academic performance
- Increase self-confidence
- Individualised attention and academic support
- Support access to STEM careers which are deemed careers-of-the-future
- Access to opportunities, such as bursary information, overseas study opportunities, further education and various career options
